For example, you will need to be taught the Brazilian pronunciation of certain words, even though they may be spelled the same in both dialects. If your goal is to achieve conversational proficiency in your new language, make sure the teacher is pronouncing the words as a Brazilian would. Also, you should be aware of the fact that there are some subtle spelling differences between the two dialects.
If you are ready to learn Brazilian Portuguese, you will need to choose an appropriate course or software program to help you. Be sure that you choose something that is taught by native Brazilian speakers so that you can benefit from hearing the proper pronunciations of words. A full immersion in the language is the best way to learn, so choose a program or class that will require you to listen to the language being spoken and respond in turn.
